Welcome
My name is Carl, and I am 52 years old. Not exactly yet, my birthday is the 29th of August. There’s nothing special about being 52. It is not a milestone number, nor does it have a special significance. It is just a point in the time of my life. Like another chapter in a book, I know a little bit more than I did at 51.
52 looks like it is going to be pretty good. My new age comes with a positive outlook. I continue to exercise, and I feel better than I did at 50. I am anticipating all the events and holidays that this next year will bring. I also get the bonus of becoming a little wiser than I was a year ago. If I am lucky, I could become a grandfather.
52 is also the time in my life when I feel the need to start putting my thoughts to paper. That’s the idea for the blog. Rather than boring people in person, you can read my thoughts at your leisure. The only thing I expect from the process is to leave my readers a few things to consider, and a couple laughs.
I fully realize some of my opinions may change after I write all, or part of this. That’s OK. We all continue to grow. This is me at 52, not 53. Principles are different though. Those shouldn’t change. They are the foundation of my opinions.
I suppose I could lay out the basics of who I am at 52 on a list. It would be simple, but it would be no good. A list can tell you a lot, but say nothing. I want you to get to know me. Not to see what I am on list of pro and con issues. Lists are cold and impersonal. Besides, laying down a line of bullshit now and then makes it more fun.
Like most people, I suppose I am a mixture of ideas and experiences. Some serious, some may be considered ridiculous. I believe in this mixture of life. I have been lucky man. Not in the lottery kind of way, but the best way. I found my true love in Susan, my wife of 33 years now. I have great children Jessica and her husband Josh, Robert, and Brian. I have great friends, and I have owned a few good dogs.
I can be a political person. Just trying to stay up to date on current events will make anyone political. It is hard to imagine how you can go through life without opinions on the issues we face. I am surprised though by people who let politics consume them. They judge everyone and everything through their political views. I think we should learn to know each other more meaningful ways.
I am not really religious, but I do believe in a supreme being. I believe a person should be free to find god in their own way. I believe we should keep our religious views out of politics, just like politics should stay out of religion. I am skeptical of anyone who mixes the two. The best way to show me you have found your own “truth” is the way you live your life.
Hopefully, this is a good start, the cornerstone upon which to build. Please look in from time to time and let me know what you think.
